3G Network Closure Extended
Good news! Telstra has extended the 3G network closure to August 31st, 2024, giving everyone more time to upgrade their devices.
Why This Matters
After August 31st, devices that aren’t upgraded or software-updated won’t be able to make calls, including emergency calls to 000.
How you can check if you have a 3G phone and what to do next.
- Check Device Compatibility: use the free SMS Device Checker by texting “3G” to 3498.
- Upgrade or Update: Impacted customers will need to either:
- Upgrade their device to a new 4G/5G compatible phone.
- Update their software and settings (if applicable) to enable 4G emergency calling.
- Don’t Test by Calling 000: calling 000 to test is unnecessary and disrupts emergency services.
